New Virus Reported

The Punjab Health Department has reported that over the past 12 days, more than 50,000 influenza cases have been recorded in government hospitals across the province. Like many other countries, Pakistan is witnessing a sharp rise in influenza cases, with viral infections in Punjab—particularly in Lahore—reaching alarming levels. A large number of residents suffering from influenza and other viral illnesses are seeking treatment at both government and private hospitals and clinics. Private clinics are also experiencing an unusually high patient load. Common symptoms among those affected include dry cough, severe cold, headache, and body aches. Medical experts believe that most patients visiting hospitals are showing symptoms consistent with influenza A (H3N2). They have warned that influenza cases are likely to increase further between December and February, while smog conditions may prolong the duration and severity of symptoms. The health department stated that influenza cases are currently not being confirmed through laboratory testing. However, based on clinical diagnosis, the number of suspected cases remains high.
